Bootheel Amateur Radio Club
Tribute to Bill Piatt NØJHW, (SK June 15, 2020)
Throughout the entire history of the Bootheel Amateur Radio Club, the list of names who "saw it all, from beginning until now" are very short indeed. One such name was Bill Piatt NØJHW. He was our club president in 2020. It was one of many countless times he stepped in to fill that job. Bill was a dedicated and excellent ham. He enjoyed seeing people enjoy the hobby, and was the Volunteer Examiner of our group who had the highest number of tests given. He created our club emblem, and our club newsletter (which he was considering bringing back).
He also rode bikes thousands of miles over the years. On June 15, he was out doing what he loved to do, riding his bicycle on a long cross country ride. An unfortunate accident occurred, bikes and vehicles don't mix. I like the story I was told once of a man who liked to take walks every day with the Lord. One day, the conversation and fellowship were so good, they lost track of time. When they finally realized it, the Lord said "You're closer to my home than yours, why don't you just come home with Me?" I think of Bill's last ride that way. It was a life lived well, very well.
73 Bill, till we meet again!
